Our story

I have always been drawn to the exotic, getting to know other cultures different from mine. I guess this is why a Spanish girl ended up in Australia and married a Bangladeshi! During many visits to my husband's wonderful country I have admired their traditional arts and crafts. I found that their typical use of natural materials resonates with the Spanish decor that we love back home and that I have grown up seeing.

Every trip to Bangladesh would end up in a shopping spree; trying to bring home something that spoke about us and our story. When returning to Australia, I would then realise that the homewares I went through so much hassle to fit in our luggage, were not quite matching up with our lifestyle here.

As a result of this for many years I had a vision in mind: to find our own producers and create a range of high quality homewares that could translate traditional elements into a contemporary lifestyle.

My studies in Interior Design and Decoration at the renowned Design Centre Enmore (Sydney) have also had a great influence in my understanding of design. Having being trained in conceptual design means that our collections are not born to fit within a particular decorative style, rather they have been created with a view to keeping our story at their core. The results are original and innovative designs that adapt to multiple decorative trends, therefore adding a layer of depth that has not been seen elsewhere before.

After the birth of my child, I like many other parents am rediscovering the world again through my son's eyes. He is a constant source of inspiration for me. Like my little one, lal & nil represents the merging of cultures, and the fusion of Spanish Mediterranean influences with the traditional textile crafts from Bangladesh.

All of our products are lovingly designed by the Adobe Suite nerd rookie mum here. Our design & making process involve imagination, story telling and joy. I invite you to browse through or website and our blog where you can find out more about us. You are most welcome to drop us a line too!
